The Challenge
In 2023, Surfing Australia appointed Wonder to execute the inaugural Seas the Day Women’s Surf Festival. With a short lead time, we had the challenge to successfully execute the world’s biggest female-only surf festival. Then in 2024, Surfing Australia set out to raise the bar in the event’s second year, aiming for 72 teams (216 competitors), 10,000 spectators, and ensuring sponsors, participants, and spectators were all “stoked” with the event.
The Idea
Held on the beautiful Kingscliff Beach NSW, Saturday and Sunday the 22nd & 23rd of June. The festival space hosted entertainment and HUBS with a variety of keynote talks on everything from careers & film and photography to mental health. The program included workshops incorporating yoga, ice baths and breath work.
In the water, 270 surfers in teams of 3 competed across four categories, open to all women Australia-wide no matter their age or ability for Shortboard and Longboard division for a share of $50,000 in cash and prizes.
The Outcome
90 teams - 270 competitors (up 80% on 2023). 15,000 spectators (up 50% on 2023). 1,727 hub tickets booked (up 100% on 2023). Sponsors, competitors and attendees went home “stoked”.
