The Challenge

Tourism NZ wanted to showcase the best of New Zealand's North Island to domestic Australian travellers by immersing them in a unique sensory experience. This was strategically linked to a New Zealand fare sale.

The Idea

Wonder created the Qantas & Tourism New Zealand Travelator - a truly realistic and awe-inspiring aircraft fuselage (over 27m long and 3m tall) positioned over the moving walkway inside Sydney Domestic Airport.

Passengers were taken on a photographic journey of New Zealand's North Island, with stunning landscape images displayed in the aircraft windows and atmospheric music creating a memorable ambient experience for millions of travellers. Large TV screens inside the Travelator displayed the Qantas NZ retail offer.

The Outcome

The Travelator carried over half a million passengers during the 6-week activation. This hugely popular and successful activation has been extended by Qantas, with the Travelator set to live on at the Airport for years to come, providing the Qantas brand with an ongoing promotional asset. It is currently showcasing a new Qantas brand campaign to millions of holiday and business travellers.
